So, back to where we left off. Alice had just learned the man who rescued her is none other than Nicholas Warde, the Second Earl of Gray Cross.
“No,” she said, so softly that he could
barely hear her. “It’s not possible.” Her eyes rolled back in her head and her
knees gave way.
With a curse, Nicholas leaped toward her,
catching her before she collapsed and fell into the fire. What could possibly have caused her to faint
at the very mention of his name. He had a good reputation, was known to be a
fair man in all of his dealings, from the lowest of the low to those who
thought themselves above him.
He took care of his town and the outlying dwellings, was even handed

Alice reminds me of Laura Palmer (Twin Peaks), she's filled with secrets.
